Discontinuing Dry Eyes
Dry eye disease is an irritating and potentially painful condition. Many patients will simply deal with the irritation, blaming it only on external factors. At Total Focus Optometry, we don’t want any of our patients to live with irritated eyes.
Our practice uses dry eye therapy to solve the root cause of a patient’s dry eyes. Depending on your eyes and your health, we may recommend different treatment methods.
What Causes Dry Eye Disease?
Dry eye disease can be caused by various factors. However, the condition sets in when the eyes are unable to lubricate themselves properly. This is normally caused by either not enough tears or low-quality tears.
Common symptoms of dry eye include:
- Foreign body sensation
- Excessive tearing
- Fluctuating vision
- Gritty, burning, or scratchy eyes
Dry Eye Treatments
Dry eye affects everyone differently. When you visit for dry eye therapy, we’ll discuss possible treatment options and recommend a method that will work best for you. The following are a couple of treatment options we might recommend to our dry eye patients.
Restasis
Restasis is an eye drop that assists in creating high-quality tears. Since Restasis isn’t an artificial tear, it does more than simply lubricate the eye for a short period.
Blephex
Blephex is an in-office treatment that helps to remove accumulated biofilm around the eyelids. Removing this build-up helps the eye produce a greater number of tears that are natural and higher in quality. This treatment normally only takes 6–8 minutes.
